    Schedule of Programs, Events and, Symposiums

    The Riverside Convention Center in Riverside, California is the setting for the 1996

    AFMS/CFMS Show and Convention, It will provide over 50,000 square feet for displays, dealers,

    and demonstrations in a beautiful, carpeted, air-conditioned facility with free parking.
    • The Diamond Daze Show will keep you in a daze with activities. Tuesday and Wednesday are designated for the AFMS meetings. Thursday will be a convention day for judging and for various AFMS and CFMS workshops, such as the editor's workshop. Friday, Saturday and Sunday the show will be open to the public and symposiums will be held in specialty areas for your growth and advancement of knowledge.

    • Our headquarters hotel is the Holiday Inn across the Raincross Square Plaza from the Convention Center in Riverside, California. Hotel


    • If you are an RVer, five miles from the center you will find Rancho Jurupa Park in Riverside, California with full hook ups and more. Camping


    • Riverside is the western gateway to the Mojave Desert. We will have a field trip to the Crestmore Quarry and one to Elizabeth R tourmaline mine. We will have lectures on some of the minerals and fossils from the area. Field Trips and Lectures


    • Carver's Symposium:
      This two day event with speakers will cover the various materials and techniques used in carving. Carvers will also be demonstrating. Carving
    • Faceters's Symposium:
      This three day event will have speakers effectively covering the many areas involved in the faceting of gemstones. Have your questions answered, meet the speakers; meet other faceters, and gain from this helpful and interesting experience. Faceting
    • Opal Symposium:
      This event will have speakers on opal evaluation, cutting, and mining. Opals
    • Petrified Wood Symposium:
      Walton Wright will teach the technique of petrified wood identification and give you much information on collecting in various areas. He will use a video microscope to show the cells and structures of wood and how it compares to trees of today. If you have an interest in petrified wood, you will find these classes Thursday through Saturday very informative. Petrified Wood
